Measuring movement consistency from ordinary video.

Flexion Claims is building a markerless tool that measures how consistently a person repeats a guided set of movements, using a standard camera and no wearable sensors.

It is designed for functional capacity evaluation, where the same movement is repeated and the question is how steady the performance is across trials.

What it measures

Within-subject consistency, and nothing more.

The tool takes a guided battery of seven movements. For each one it reads three kinematic channels from the video: range of motion, repetition timing, and peak velocity, plus left and right symmetry on two of the items. It then compares performance within a block and between separated blocks of the same movement.

The output is a measure of how consistent that performance is. It is a video-based reading of movement variability, evaluated across many channels and movements rather than a single action.

What it does not claim

Flexion measures consistency of effort. It does not judge whether a person is sincere, and it does not detect fraud, malingering, or symptom magnification. Those are conclusions for qualified people, not for a score.

A consistency reading is one input among many. It is not a verdict, and no report from the tool should be read as one.

How the work is being validated

A benchmark set in advance

The study registers a published detection benchmark as the bar to beat before any data is collected, so success is defined ahead of time rather than after the fact.

It refuses bad footage

Every recording carries a tracking-quality measure. Footage below the threshold is refused and reshot, not scored. The refusal rate is reported as a study outcome.

Multi-channel, not single-channel

The method reads several channels across seven movements, with a between-block comparison that a single-action force measure does not have.

Honest about its limits

The protocol states plainly where the evidence stops. If the score does not clear the benchmark, the study records that it did not.

Where the project stands

Flexion Claims is early and privately funded. The validation protocol is written and the analysis tool is built. We are looking for a clinical study site and research advisors in occupational biomechanics and functional capacity evaluation to run and review the pilot.
